What is a Bixpo?

The Tenfold Collective has just returned from a very exciting couple of days at Northern Colorado's business expo known as Bixpo. A hearty thanks to all who stopped by to say hello, sit in our midcentury-modern chairs, and eat a little chocolate. We had a wonderful time and you are all great folks to know!

Wisdom

Inspired by the idea that wisdom is the greatest gift one generation can give to another, award-winning photographer and filmmaker Andrew Zuckerman interviewed, photographed and filmed 50 of the world’s great writers, actors, artists, designers, politicians, musicians and religious and business leaders of our time for his book Wisdom: 50 Unique and Original Portraits. He posed seven questions to each of his subjects—all over 65 years of age—and their candid responses offer uniquely inspirational and often surprising insights.

Thoughts from Nelson Mandela, Frank Gehry, Judi Dench, The Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, Clint Eastwood, Ted Kennedy, Robert Redford, Vaclav Havel, Terence Conran, Buzz Aldrin, Lou Reed, Willie Nelson, Madeline Albright, Jane Goodall, Burt Bacharach, Andrew Wyeth, Vanessa Redgrave, Nadine Gordimer and many more reveal lifetimes of adversity and triumph, and present intimate insights into very public lives.

Just in time for the Christmas gifting season.

PC hires Jerry Seinfeld

Disclaimer: A wise man once told me that "objectivity is a myth"; therefore I must disclose that this article is written objectively by a Mac user.

Less than two weeks after Microsoft confirmed that it had hired Jerry Seinfeld as its new endorser for $10 million, the Seinfeld and Bill Gates ad appeared during the NFL's opening weekend to less than favorable reviews, but plenty of buzz. All in all, this commercial only demonstrates how good Apple's depiction of PC really is. I can see it now...the next Apple ad should feature PC hiring a celebrity to make a commercial that makes no sense...

Here are a few comments and blog reviews that made us laugh:

"but up until the final seconds, I was convinced this was an ad for Payless. And I may be stupid, but I'm still your target audience, Microsoft." Gawker

"Two middle-aged men with their flat butts talking in a mall and then walking creakily to their car in the parking lot. The End."

"It's official, Microsoft's best salesperson is actually the PC guy from the Mac ads."

"In typical Seinfeld style a commercial about nothing! What a suitable match for a company that is going no where!"

Objectivity

The Tenfold Collective was recently invited to participate in an interesting project with Windward Reports. Windward Reports has developed a plug-in for Microsoft Word or Excel that enables any user to generate reports from raw data.

The project began with a multivariate test of different components of the Windward website. Which headline generates the most conversions? Where should the download button be located on the page? What colors do users respond to? After several months of testing different components the data was compiled and presented to 3 different design groups, one of which was us.

Here are the results:

Option 1

Conversion Rate: 2.17%
Option 2

Conversion Rate: 3.58%
Option 3 (Tenfold's)

Conversion Rate: 4.09%

Bad Design Sticker

Our second sticker in the series. This is our cautionary public service announcement for those who view design as mere decoration and an afterthought. Bad design frustrates, creates doubt, and even kills. On the other hand, good design incorporates insightful strategy, communicates effectively, builds trust, differentiates, and generates action—making good design an investment that pays back tenfold.
